[Vacation] destination: Florianopolis, Brazil

I just got back from Florianopolis, Brazil where I spent a week with my brother. Florianopolis is the capital of Santa Catarina, an island in the south of Brazil. We stayed at a bed and breakfast called A Janela de Marcia, whose wonderful owner showed us around Lagoa da Conceicao and its beaches.

Where to stay: A Janela de Marcia, Lagoa da Conceicao

Lagoa da Coneicao is a cool surf town in Florianopolis. Described by The New York Times as boho-chic. Lots of surf shops, bathing suit shops, restaurants and bars, a music store, Havaianas flip flops store. Very beachy. Not fancy at all. But extremely beautiful and amazing views. A Janela de Marcia is a  bed and breakfast that is perfectly situated in a residential neighborhood within walking distance (5 mins) to the center of Lagoa da Conceicao. Surrounding beaches are easily accessible by foot, bus, bike, moped, car etc. Low key and laid back complete with all necessities to ensure a relaxing and comfortable stay.

Where to eat: Sushi Roots, O Barba Negra, bars on Praia Mole, Bar do Arante in Pantano do Sul

Clubs: Confraria das Artes

Beaches: Praia Mole, Barra da Lagoa, Joaquina, Campeche

Praia Mole - very young, fun crowd. Beach bars with djs all day, great food and drinks. Big waves, lots of surfing, almost all pros, fun to watch.

Barra da Lagoa - popular surfing beach, great place to learn how to surf. Cool little town with surf shops. Low brow.

Joaquina - beautiful, some surfing, rocks that you can walk on the get an amazing panoramic view of the ocean and beach. Dune surfing also an option.

Campeche - Riozinho is the most beautiful part of the beach. Gorgeous. Island off of the beach you can take a boat to. Best Caipirinhas (Brazil's national cocktail made with Cachaca, Sugar and Lime) in Florianopolis.
